Pupils started Monday 27th August, 1973, a week later than scheduled. The first headmaster was a Mr Dolan. By 1975 the roll was 432. The school originally had 14 classes, intended for a maximum of 560 pupils.

Opened in 1972, with just 28 pupils. By 1975, the roll had reached 587, and children were starting at a rate of up to fifteen a week. Castlefield Primary was the first school to be built in Greenhills, and it was also the venue for the first playgroups in the area – The Links and the Mudlarks, which started in 1973. It was also used for three years by the Church of Scotland congregation while the parish church was being built.

The shop has been there really for as long as Greenhills has and has sold lots of sausages. Working at a rate of 600 kilograms of sausages per week, with 24 links per kilo, the butcher’s shop has produced approximately 19,828,800 sausages (12,120 cows)

Mr Morrison sells approximately 280 pans of rolls per week. With 32 rolls in each pan, that amounts to around 12,337,920 rolls since the shop opened. He has also sold around 2,148,120 pies during his time at Greenhills.

The pharmacy has been in its current location for six years, since the centre was re-developed in 1996, but it has been in the Greenhills Centre for a total of 25 years. With an average of 20 packs of paracetamol – that’s 640 tablets –being sold each day, Fentons has sold, over the years, 4,896,000 paracetamol tablets.

The bar opened in 1974, and is owned by the Birret Group. The pub serves around 678 gallons of beer every week. That means that, over the years, the pub has served approximately 1,002,762 gallons of beer, equivalent to over 8 million pints.

The pub opened on 22nd September 1979. Mr Hart bought the land, formerly Whitehills Farm, from the Corporation. The pub serves around 400 gallons of beer per week, which works out at 469,200 gallons of beer over the years, nearly 4 million pints.
