about the video

To many people Greenhills is just a housing estate
built in the 70’s, by the Development Corporation, for
the Glasgow overspill that were moving to the new town
of East Kilbride, but this video aims to show you that
there is a lot more to the area than meets the eye.
Greenhills has a rich heritage that stretches far beyond
the modern day housing that now fills the
area.
THE LICKPRIVICK FAMILY
Find out about the Lickprivick family - one of
Scotland's earliest families of nobility - and how they
ruled the area, using their castles as a seat of power
to dish out justice as they saw fit. See their castles
in all their glory, from the earlier Earth and Timber
Castle to the later Stone Scottish Baronial Tower,
and find out about their role in Scottish society
in mediaeval times.
Experience the differences
between modern day living and life for the commoners in
mediaeval times, as we compare and contrast the
Greenhills of today with the Greenhills of the Middle
Ages.
THE FARMS
Learn about the
farming heritage that was here before, and how difficult
farming was before modern technology came in, as we
interview some of the original farming
families that worked the land here. Take a trip to
places like Lickprivick, High Whitehills or West
Netherton Farm and meet the people who owned and worked
the farms.
THE HOLIDAY CAMPS
Find out about
the holiday camps that made Greenhills one of the more
popular holiday destinations for people from all over
Scotland and the United Kingdom. Hear about the people
who holidayed here, where they lived and the
activities they used to get up to.
HOW
GREENHILLS CAME ABOUT
Hear how the community of Greenhills was built and
planned as we interview the original builders and
planners, to find out how a massive project like the
building of Greenhills came about.
